It’s crucial to educate landowners about health and environmental impacts of these developments on their land.

The next potential battle is going to be TerraGen. They have got at least 37 different landowners to sign leases for a large scale wind project. They have currently secured 8,000+/- acres across the Towns of Stark, Warren, Danube, Columbia, Little Falls, and German Flatts, if it goes through. 

It’s crucial to educate landowners about health and environmental impacts of these developments on their land. All landowners are a potential target for energy companies. Please talk with your neighbors.

To view each filed lease agreement go to the following- www.herkimercounty.org -> government-> county clerk -> links -> online land records search site -> search records as guest. From there type “Terra Gen” in “Last Name or Company Name” field and click search. 

Per conversation with one of the landowners, their understanding is that the lease is to allow Terra Gen to utilize their land however they wish. This could be wind turbine, solar panels, transmission lines, access roads, etc. Terra Gen is primarily looking to do a large wind project, but are open to solar as well. 

There is at least one other renewable energy company in the area. They are just beginning exploratory work. This company is primarily looking into a wind project as well.
